Summary
The details discussed in the previous pages and many other traditional details are retained by us as a set of standard drawings. They are all based upon traditional patterns recorded on buildings we have knowledge of and can be adapted to suit the particular building type and style to be worked on. Because we work daily on historic buildings, we are in contact with those contractors capable of reproducing these details and of undertaking sympathetic repairs and alterations. We also have a directory of suppliers and craftsmen for more specialised work.
Ultimately it is the knowledge of the architect in understanding the nature of the building type, their experience gained from overseeing many similar projects and in selecting craftsmen capable of carrying out your work which will determine the success of the project.

Further Reading
There are a great many books written on the subject of timber framed buildings, but one of the best available introductions to the history of timber framed buildings is a booklet produced by Shire Publications entitled “Discovering Timber Framed Buildings” by Richard Harris.
